✰SDC SPOTLIGHT ✰ Lee Adcox: President & CEO

The spotlight this month is our President and CEO, Lee Adcox. Lee is originally from Dalton, GA, but he moved to Decatur, AL prior to high school and then to Huntsville, AL in 1985 where he still resides today.

Lee began his career in finance in 1974 and got into banking in 1977 with a small local bank in Decatur, AL. From there, he helped start First American Bank in Decatur, AL in 1981 which became very successful. He left the bank in 1985 to join Colonial Bank in Huntsville, AL working in commercial lending and management. In 1993, Lee left banking to start an equipment leasing company that provided long-term leasing options for growing companies until he sold the company in 2008. He continued to work with the leasing company until he retired in 2017. Lee has been a part of the SDC Board of Directors since the early 1990s and he took on the role of President/CEO in 2022.

Lee and his late wife, Debbie, have a blended family of 6 children and from those children came 10 grandchildren, with #11 on the way and due in May 2023. In his free time, Lee enjoys building and making things with his hands, and has made several things over the years including an airplane, a small boat, and a camper. He also enjoys flying as well as boating on his 42ft long 1984 traditional Trawler named, “Dixie Belle.” He has recently taken up racquetball and enjoys playing 4-5 times a week typically.

After retiring in 2017, Lee took a journey on the Great Loop, which is a system of waterways that encompasses the eastern U.S. and parts of Canada and includes both natural and man-made waterways such as the Atlantic and Gulf Intracoastal waterways, the Great Lakes, the Rideau Canal, the Mississippi waterway, and the Tennessee waterway. The entire route stretches about 6,000 miles. Lee began his trip with his 13-year-old granddaughter, but broke his hip in St. Augustine, FL, so he had to split up his trip to finish healing and then wait for the appropriate season to start back up. On average, most people take a year to complete the loop, but due to the circumstances, it took closer to 2 years. He still spends a lot of time on his boat, and it is one of his favorite pastimes.

We at SDC are so thankful to have Lee as our President/CEO and longtime Board Member. He says he, “has enjoyed his time with SDC and that he enjoys working with SDC’s staff and other board members.” Lee is always available when he’s needed, he helps our office with many day-to-day operations, and always has a positive mindset and kind personality when working with us and the board.

Thank you for all that you do, Lee.
